Don’t Stop Believin’: Everyman’s Journey (2011)
Arnel Pineda was trying to make a career out of fronting bar bands, singing Journey cover songs in his native Philippines. That was until he got a phone call from the legendary rock group to audition as their new vocalist. This rock documentary chronicles the bands’ 2008 World Tour with Pineda leading the charge. With an uplifting sense of dreams do come true, we see not only Pineda’s development as a performer, but his emotional journey as he succeeds in winning over the band’s most devoted fans. 4 out of 5.
Bob Saget: That’s What I’m Talkin’ About (2013)
Veteran actor/comedian Bob Saget takes to the stage to unleash his special brand of comedy on an unsuspecting audience of twenty-somethings, who know him better as Danny Tanner. Saget banters snappily with his audience, never missing a beat. He shares some terrible stories that will probably ruin Full House for you. But the highlight of the special comes when he picks up his acoustic guitar and proceeds with his musical expressions. In this, Saget is like your favorite, foul-mouthed Uncle. 5 out of 5.
Whisker Wars: Season 2 (2012)
This reality show brings viewers the pageantry and skill of competitive bearding. That’s right – it’s a beauty pageant full of burly, manly men. The show focuses on a group of men competing against one another for the Best Beard in America – or Gnarliest, as is the case in Austin, Texas. With multiple categories for every size and style of whisker, the show aptly reflects the growing popularity of facial hair. For added drama, we see the return of the arrogant Jack Passion, whose giant red beard makes quite an upset this season. 4 out of 5.
