Fall is my favorite season for fashion. The weather isn’t too cold yet, so there is still time to experiment before throwing a large puffy coat over everything.
The air is crisp and more refreshing than the end-of-summer humidity. There are so many inspiring things to look at, and I think it gives people the motivation they need to dress well.
This fall more than ever, we are seeing lots of fun cozy layering, and beautiful fabrics. One of the most prominent trends are menswear inspired prints. The recurring favorite is plaid. It’s still going strong this season.Houndstooth and herringbone are also popular picks. Choose your favorite print in a jacket or a big scarf to pair with more understated outfits.
Ankle boots are one of the coolest accessories for fall. They are extremely versatile, and come in styles to fit everyone’s personalities. They work really well with skinny jeans, especially when the jeans are cuffed. Play around with different patterned socks or tights to increase their utility.
Some 60’s trends have made a resurgence this this season. Mini skirts with high boots and tights or socks look updated with modern sweaters and jackets. Oversized, 60’s inspired sunglasses also make any fall outfit look chicer.
This is the time to try out crazy knits. Whether they have a funky pattern, or are slashed with tons of big holes, or a cropped style: anything goes. Layer them over a dress, or under a jacket with slightly shorter sleeves.
There are lightweight knits to wear before the temperature drops, that can be layered later in the season as well. Oversized styles are particularly popular, with many great options at local thrift stores.
Old western style is big for fall. This is a fun trend and feels like dress-up, but not in a tacky, costume-y way.
Think the Chanel Pre-fall 2014 show: Native American inspired prints, long layers, blanket-like cardigans. Wide-brimmed felt hats and vintage silver jewelry fit perfectly with this trend.
If nothing else, a great pair of equestrian boots will pay homage to old western style, and be modern with skinny jeans.
Fall is the time to have fun with fashion. Be creative and take risks with your outfits. Just because there are new trends, doesn’t mean you have to go out and buy a whole new wardrobe. Rework your closet by adding a few key pieces, or just wear your clothes in new ways.
