BSU Cheer Wins it All (Again!)

Back in the second week of April, the Bridgewater State advanced all girls and intermediate small coed cheer team won the NCA Nationals! With the event being virtual due to COVID, the team found themselves submitting routines virtually and competing with other schools in an online format. It was just two years ago the Bears were winning another title in Daytona which is where the annual event normally takes place. From prelims all the way to the finals, both teams competed from start to finish despite the new way of competing.

This was the first time both teams captured National Titles in the same season. “Red” Squad (All-Girl Advanced) scored a 94.97 to secure their fourth ever Nation Championship and first since 2019. The Bears “grey” squad (Intermediate Small Coed) scored their first title after an awesome score of a 91.98 which was the highest score in team history! The teams posed for pictures in the Bridgewater sun with both titles as they posed for the championship pictures together.

We would like to congratulate everyone apart of the decorated cheerleading team as the “winning tradition” continued even with a virtual event. Walking away with one trophy is an obvious achievement within itself but winning two shows that you have a phenomenal program top to bottom. Thank you to all the competitors and coaches who have worked so hard and stayed determined during these uncertain times where absolutely nothing was guaranteed! Congratulations again Bears, and now it is time to work on defending both titles!

Any interest in joining the cheer team? Be sure to checkout the teams page on the BSU Bears athletics website and find additional info under the recreation section then select club sports.
