BSU Swim & Dive Team 2023-24 Season Preview
The Bridgewater State Bears Swimming & Diving teams are set to start up soon. The season will begin on October 14 with a match at Division II St. Michael’s College in Vermont and last until February. The Comment talked with Head Coach Michael Caruso about what to expect from the Bears this season.
Caruso explained that “we want to have a good student experience. Yes, we have two very talented teams with the men’s and women’s programs. I think our first big goal is to get the women to get their first conference championship.” During the last two seasons, the Women’s team placed second at the Little East Championship (LEC), coming behind Keene State for both years. The LEC first began sponsoring Men’s Swimming during 2021-2022 season, and the Bears Men’s team has won the championship for the past two years.
Some of the key players on the Men’s team are Captains Joseph Pervier, Brennan Gravanda, and Connor Young. On the Women’s side, the biggest returner is Cailey Simard. Simard was the first BSU Women’s Diver to make regionals and will be trying for nationals this season.
After the Bears start out in Vermont, the men will host three straight matches at the Moriarty Pool against Clark University, Wheaton College (MA), and Roger Williams. The women will be facing the same teams in addition to UMass Dartmouth at home and then the BSU Invitational on December 2. After this, there won’t be another home meet until the weekend of February 2 against Eastern Connecticut State and Plymouth State. The LEC Championship will be in Wellesley, MA on February 15-17.
