A Valiant Return of Demigods and Lightning Bolts

Disney plus just released the season one finale of Percy Jackson and the Olympians adaptation, have you seen it?

The beloved book series Percy Jackson was recently remade by Disney into a live action adaptation. The show’s first season just finished as of January 30th and is streaming in full. But was it worth watching? Fans had some mixed opinions on the adaptation, so let us go over it.

The show starred 15-year-old Walker Scobell (he/him) who is new to the cinematic world, but has quickly made a name for himself, considering his major role in The Adam Project (2022) and now as Percy Jackson. His co-stars, Leah Jeffries (she/her) and Aryan Simhadri (he/him), are also young stars that have risen in fame. Their chemistry on and off set as well as their similarities helped breathe life into the characters that they each play. Many have applauded the fact that their ages and personalities match the book characters’ ages and personalities so well that they were almost destined to play the roles.

For those of you wondering “didn’t Percy Jackson already have a live action?” you would be right! The early 2010’s movies, Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief and Percy Jackson: Sea of monsters, were a beginning to an unfinished series. The current show has pulled some inspiration from the earlier movies, as well as being able to not repeat the same characters or lines too frequently. The show brought all the fans favorites while still adding a fun twist to produce something new.

Overall, the show was received incredibly well, and many fans were happy with the results. Me as well as others who have read the books agree that it was interesting to see how the directors kept the material fresh and added more depth to some characters and scenes.  The special effects, costumes, and sets were designed beautify and intricately, making sure to put in special details to make every detail look realistic and accurate. It brings a childlike wonder back onto the screen for all ages to enjoy, and with only the first of five books being completed, more is expected to come.

An Honest Immaculate Review

Immaculate, starring Sydney Sweeney (she/her) and directed by Michael Mohan (he/him), was a good movie. That being said, it did not blow my mind. The plot was predictable and the messaging was heavy-handed. However, I enjoyed it. I don’t think it will become the next cult classic, but it is worth the watch. MINOR SPOILERS […]
