NBA Trade Deadline Review

Another year, another NBA trade deadline. While it was a more quiet trade deadline than most were expecting there was still a good amount of moves that were made. Here’s the review of the 2024 NBA Trade Deadline.

The Oklahoma City Thunder are having a great year and seem to be pushing for a playoff run. But the roster is young, and there is little to no playoff experience. Enter Gordon Hayward, an NBA veteran who has previously made playoff pushes with the Celtics. I think this a great move on OKC’s part adding not only some frontcourt depth but also making this trade without dispensing any draft capital. The Hornets; for their trouble, also get some veterans that can hopefully help lead that young core.

With Joel Embiid out of commission for the next couple of weeks with a knee injury, the Philadelphia 76ers also need some more depth to help alleviate Joel Embiid’s absence. They settled on Buddy Hield of the Indiana Pacers, one of the best 3-pointers in the league. Giving up ex-Celtic Marcus Morris, Furkan Korkmaz, and some second-round picks they did not have to offload a lot to make this deal happen. Indiana could have gained more from this deal, but with their acquisition of Pascal Siakam from the Toronto Raptors, Hield was not really necessary, and getting anything for him was honestly a good return.

Finally, it’s time to talk about the Boston Celtics, which while they did not make any spectacular moves, certainly strengthened their roster more than any other team in the league. Firstly, the Celtics added Xavier Tillman from the Memphis Grizzlies for two second-rounders; a much-needed forward that adds some depth to a frontcourt that lacked it. They then traded for Jaden Springer from the Philadelphia 76ers and another secondm which not only adds more depth but allows for more aggressive trades in the future if this year does not work out. The Celtics have added some great depth for a playoff push, but will it be enough?
