2024 NFL Draft Preview
As the 2024 NFL Draft closes in, the war rooms of all 32 teams are buzzing with anticipation.
This draft is set to be a very competitive one in terms of offensive talent, particularly at the quarterback position, with many mock drafts projecting four of the top ten selections to be quarterbacks. These standouts include USC’s Caleb Williams, who is the odds-on favorite for the first overall selection of the Chicago Bears, North Carolina’s Drake Maye, LSU’s Jayden Daniels, and Michigan’s JJ McCarthy. Beyond them, however, this draft is deep with talent at the position, with Oregon’s Bo Nix and Washington’s Michael Penix Jr. garnering significant interest as day two gets for teams potentially looking to grab talent at another position as this draft is loaded at wide receiver.
The most obvious standout among wideouts in 2024 is Ohio State’s Michael Harrison Jr. Showcasing elite talent reminiscent of his father, Harrison Jr. is projected to be one of the rare wide receivers to be taken in the top five. Teams that miss out on him aren’t starved for options, though. Washington’s Romeo Odunze, LSU’s Brian Thomas Jr. and Malik Nabers, and Texas’ Xavier Worthy are all first-round talents who could be game-changers on any offense.
On the other side of the ball, defensive pickings are slimmer than in previous years but still have strong representatives. The first projected to come off the board is Alabama defensive end Dallas Turner, with other defensive line prospects expected to closely follow suit. Some such players include Jared Verse from Florida State, Byron Murphy from Texas, and Chop Robinson from Penn State. In the secondary, choices are a little more scarce than in previous years, but prospects such as Toledo’s Quinyon Mitchell, Alabama’s Terrion Arnold and Kool-Aid McKinstry, and Clemson’s Nate Wiggins will still be available to bolster that part of the defense.
