Get Hyped Up for Homecoming 2024
It’s officially that time where the BSU Bears are coming out of hibernation for BSU Homecoming! Kicking off with Spirit Week and ending strong with the big celebration on the 5th, Homecoming is anticipated to be one of the biggest events of the year. To get all the information of what to expect this year, The Comment met with Maia Almeida (she/her), the Coordinator for Student Programs here at BSU.
The week starts off on September 30 with Casino Night hosted by Program Council (PC). Hosted in the RSU Large Ballroom, there will be a plethora of casino tables with games like black jack that will be running from 7-10 p.m. An exciting aspect of this that Almeida shared is that PC is hoping to be joined by campus partners acting as casino dealers, helping students get to know some new faces and potentially get to learn about new opportunities on campus. Be sure to register on EngageBSU and line up at 6 p.m. to get in on all the fun!
Later in the week on Thursday will be another Spirit Week and Homecoming tradition: The Homecoming Pageant. Made up of ten juniors and seniors collectively, the Homecoming Court will showcase their BSU spirit in an attempt to be crowned on Saturday during the big Homecoming celebration. It is no surprise that Almeida is looking forward to this event the most, as students can expect to see a show of fashion choices, special talents, and a Q&A portion.
In between events like Casino Night and the Homecoming Pageant, there are additional Spirit Week including food trucks, tote bags, and airbrush activities. For more information regarding these events, visit EngageBSU and register for the events!
Homecoming itself picks up starting on Friday night with Spirit Night! With the return of the hot air balloon along with glow swings, a DJ, and other fun activities. But don’t tire yourself out entirely, because Saturday is a day full of activities for students, families, and alumni!
Appealing to all, Bristaco’s Block Party will be held across the Rondileau Student Union (RSU) to University Park. Among the activities and events going on in RSU include “stuff-a-bear,” face painting, dance performances, student organization tables, and the crowning of the Homecoming Champion. In University park, you can find inflatable rides, a petting zoo, and DIY Flower Designs.
Later in the day on Saturday is, of course, the Homecoming football game at 4 p.m. against Worcester State University. Here, students, families, and alumni can tailgate with friends and enjoy a great game of football with school spirit galore.
