Logan Levesque Sets Her Sights High
The women’s soccer season is well underway and with four games already under their belt the team has earned themselves a 2-1-1 record. This strong opening record is in part due to junior goalkeeper, Logan Levesque.
Levesque has already made an impressive 29 saves across the four games and won her first shut-out of the season in the September 12 tie against the Wheaton Lyons. She has started all four games this season.
For Levesque, soccer has been part of her life since her early childhood. She started playing at just three years old. Levesque was originally drawn to the role of goalie because her older sister was one. She also attributes much of her love of the sport to her dad, “My dad is a huge part in my success,” Levesque shared, “He was my first ever soccer coach and when I used to cry after every goal that went in as a kid he would always be behind the net comforting me and bribed me with ice cream so I would stop.”
The support from her family doesn’t stop with her dad, Levesque said “My mom is also one of my biggest fans. I can always hear her cheering in the stands even if I make an easy save. She’s always the first one to congratulate me on achievements and is always one of the first people waiting at the gate to see me after a game.”
This season the Bears have set their sights on a big goal: winning their conference championship. Levesque is ready to help them get there, “…I think this year we can make it back to the championship and win it.”
Though this is an exciting time, being a goalie can be mentally challenging. Levesque admitted to struggling with this but has been working on improving over the last few years. “When I feel myself starting to get in my head I try and take a step back and regather my thoughts and make sure it’s all positive thoughts. Giving myself a moment to breathe and calm down has been really helping me. I mostly get in my head during warm ups but once I give myself a second to figure it out I’m usually okay,” Levesque said.
