Finding a Student Organization on Campus!

While BSU is always advertising events and clubs, it can still be a difficult experience for new members to get involved. Whether it’s an issue of trying to find the right organization for you or an issue of anxiety, a lot of students have that one roadblock keeping them from having an amazing time outside of classes. So then, how exactly do you find an organization to join? To help answer this question, I interviewed Andrew Raposo (he/him), the Assistant Director of Student Organizations and Campus Traditions, who helped break down the facts and provide some advice.

In total, there are currently 79 organizations active on campus. Through searching on EngageBSU, you can find much more than just when events are happening. You can find the most up-to-date information on who is active, their contact information, and descriptions of what each organization is. In addition, while the list of upcoming events can seem daunting, the search bar allows you to narrow down events through tags, organizations, and when it is happening. This tool can be extremely useful, especially when you know for a fact that certain days just aren’t doable.

For students who are struggling to find where to start or just are having trouble with EngageBSU, you can also go to the Center for Student Engagement in the RSU room 103 and ask for assistance. The student staff can help point you in the right direction by recommending organizations based on interests. “It’s totally okay to test the waters,” says Andrew. “If you find something you might like but are hesitant about joining, you can always attend a meeting as an observer and then decide if it’s something you want to do.”

If you’re thinking of joining an organization on campus, just remember that it’s never too late to look for one and there is always help if you don’t know where to start. While the Fall involvement fair has long since passed, students wanting to plan ahead or join an organization next semester can attend the Spring involvement fair on January 29, 2025 in the RSU ballroom from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. I wish you all the best of luck with EngageBSU searching and finding an organization!
