Homecoming Game Preview

The day is almost here! The Bridgewater State Bears are preparing to face the Worcester State Lancers on Saturday, October 5, for the annual Homecoming Game for the 2024 season! Currently, the Bears are 0-3. Last year, the Bears won their Homecoming game against Westfield State 21-0, their fifth win in a row. The Bears have not lost Homecoming since 2017 when they lost 27-20 to Western Connecticut State. The Bears are 6-1 in the Homecoming game under head coach Joe Verria. When the Bears last played the Lancers during Homecoming in 2010, the Bears won 19-7. Based off that alone, the Bears are heavily favored. However, history does not always define the results of a game.

Lancers Quarterback Cam Ayotte has a pass completion percentage of 59.4% and has averaged 166.7 yards per game with 7.2 yards per attempt. The player to watch right now for the Lancers is running back Nico Holmes. Holmes has averaged 116 yards per game and has rushed for 348 yards overall and has three touchdowns. Wide receiver Drew von Klock has averaged 42 yards per game. On defense, Linebacker John McMasters III has averaged 11 tackles per game as a leader of the Lancers defense.

The hosting Bears have had inconsistent Quarterback play by comparison between SP Pragano and Jack Renaud. Pragano has only completed 40.9% of passes and Renaud is at 28.6%. The two have only thrown one passing touchdown, thrown by Pragano. Running back Trevor Nunes has performed well for the Bears, rushing for around 90.7 yards per game with four touchdowns. On defense, the Bears have seen Jorge Aquino sack the Quarterback 2.5 times. All stats are as of September 26. Expect the Lancers to be more likely to win statistically, but do not count out the Bears as they pursue their seventh homecoming win since 2016.
