Meet the BSU 2024 Homecoming Court!
With the Homecoming Pageant in full swing, Bristaco reached out to The Comment to give an introduction of this year’s Homecoming Court! Made up of ten students nominated for the crown, the Homecoming Court consists of some of BSU’s best. Meet them now!
Kira Hodges (she/her) is first up on the court! As a senior here at BSU, Kira is double majoring in both English and secondary education. On campus, Kira is a head resident assistant (RA), overseeing Miles Hall, Dinardo Hall, and part of Crimson hall. She also has a show on WBIM, the school’s radio station, so be sure to tune in! When asked about her favorite thing about BSU, Kira had a lot to say about the community. “I think campus promotes a lot of space to make friends and find your place,” she said. “I’m really happy in what I’ve made with what’s given here, which is a lot.”
Abbie Styran (she/her) is next! Abbie is a senior double majoring in communication studies and theater arts. Here at BSU, Abbie is a Student Engagement Assistant in the Center for Student Engagement, VP of Events for Relay for Life, Senior Traditions Coordinator of Program Council, involved in several BSU theater productions, and is a RA in Weygand Hall. Abbie is grateful for the support of many people here at BSU, especially from her boss, Andrew Raposo, who has always been a big inspiration to her. “I’ve known him since very early in my journey here at BSU, and he’s always been very kind and compassionate and has allowed me so much room to grow.” Abbie said.
Jaylen Cromwell (he/him), commonly known by Jay, is third on the list. Jay is a senior majoring in social work. He runs an aspiring debate team on campus, was a former student senator for SGA, and is now pledging to a fraternity. When asked why he accepted his nomination to join the court, Jay said, “Someone told me that I was a positive influence on campus, that I help to better the community. Homecoming is a special week where people get together, have a good time and laugh. I just want to make that person proud, and I imagine they’re gonna be in the crowd.”
Noel Hill is another member of the court. Noel is a junior double majoring in business management and marketing. Noel is the president of Revival Central CMI, the marketing intern for Bridgewater Dining, and a RA in Weygand Hall. When asked about his costume for the pageant, Noel says that people should “expect a lot of swordsmanship and a lot of cool moves.” We can’t wait to see it!
Next up on the court is Becca Hamel (she/her). Becca is a senior majoring in social work. She is one of two Operations Managers for RSU, and is also an active member of Phi Sigma Sigma. When asked why she thinks people should go to the pageant, Becca lit up.“It’s going to be so much fun,” she said. “It’s genuinely so lighthearted and it’s such a great way to join together as a larger campus community.”
The fifth member of the court is Jacob Qua (he/him). He is a senior majoring in psychology with a minor in special education. Jacob is the Interim Vice President of Student Government Association, the Co-President of Fraternity Sorority Life Council, a brother of Phi Kappa Theta, and the current Sweetheart Delta Phi Epsilon sorority. In three words, Jacob would describe his talent as “Unique, fun, weird.”
Up next is Dom Zullo (he/him), a junior majoring in communication sciences and disorders with a minor in music. Dom is involved in Program council, Best Buddies, CPDC (Children’s Physical Developmental Clinic), SAS, OTEAM, a Bear Connections Mentor, and as Dom put it, “pretty much everything at the center for student engagement.” Dom shared some advice he has for BSU students when it comes to Homecoming: “Go to as many events as you can, branch out, try something new, and you will meet new people,” Dom said. “The friends you make at BSU are ones that will likely last you a lifetime, so be sure to enjoy life and just have a good time.”
Travis Carvalho (he/him) is another member of the court. Travis is a senior majoring in theater arts and is also involved in the Student Theater Association. When asked about how he shows his school spirit, Travis said “I show my school spirit by going to any events that I can, supporting organizations on campus, and just enjoying my time here.”
Maia Rose (she/her) is the next member of the court. She is a senior business management major with a concentration in human resources. To get involved, Maia does her best to get engaged with as many people as she can. She is excited to have her escorts be “A few international friends, [her] grandparents, and [her] boyfriend.”
Last, but not least is Julia Courtney (she/her). She is a junior majoring in biology, and is a member of the biology club. Julia is excited about “Getting to perform with [her] friend and getting to see [her] parents.” Julia also said “I’m gonna go to the football game for the first time which I’ve missed these past few years, so I’m really excited to go.”
