Overview of the Sean “Diddy” Combs Sex Trafficking and Racketeering Case
On September 16, 2024, Sean “Diddy” Combs (He/Him) was arrested by federal agents and “charged in a three count Indictment with racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking, and transportation to engage in prostitution”
Damian Williams, (He/Him) the United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York said of the arrest: “As alleged in the Indictment, for years, Sean Combs used the business empire he controlled to sexually abuse and exploit women, as well as to commit other acts of violence and obstruction of justice. Today, he is charged with racketeering and sex trafficking offenses. If you have been a victim of Combs’ alleged abuse – or if you know anything about his alleged crimes – we urge you to come forward. This investigation is far from over.”
This information has come out after a series of lawsuits from past partners and associates, the most high profile of which was his past long-term partner Cassie Ventura (She/Her) who filed her lawsuit in November of 2023. Ventura alleged years of abuse in her relationship with Combs. The lawsuit was settled the day after filing.
In March 2024, many of Combs’s properties were raided by Homeland Security. In this raid, many pieces of paraphernalia were found with 1000 bottles of baby oil garnering widespread attention.
In May 2024, a video was released by CNN of hotel footage of a violent assault from Combs on Ventura as detailed in her lawsuit. In an Instagram post addressing the video that has since been deleted, Combs wrote “My behavior on that video is inexcusable,” Combs said. “I take full responsibility for my actions in that video. I’m disgusted. I was disgusted then when I did it. I’m disgusted now.”
Since his arrest, Combs has been incarcerated. This is due to his bond being denied by A New York federal judge, who argued that Combs was a “serious flight risk.” Combs and his legal team have maintained that he is “Not-Guilty.”
The trial is currently set for May 5th, 2025.
