Invest Your Time in International Culture Club
If you’re looking to join an organization where you can meet and learn about other people from various cultural backgrounds and identities, the International Culture Club (ICC) could be the place for you! ICC has the unique achievement of being the first of its kind at BSU, with other cultural clubs being created in its wake. It’s a place to gather, make friends, and mingle ideas, but it needs your help to be restored back to its former glory.
One thing you can do to help is spread the word. “We need people who are welcoming, open-minded, and good collaborators,” said former President Lora Coggins (‘24, she/her/he/him). All positions on the Executive Board are available, so if you’re up to the task of being President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, or Social Media Manager, think about joining in!
E-Board duties include holding meetings and deciding that day’s topic for the President and Vice President, securing finances for events and activities for the Treasurer, taking notes and notifying other members of meetings and events for the Secretary, and creating posts and promoting the club through social media for the Social Media Manager. Once established, E-Board members will be trained in understanding the goals of the club and learning responsibilities like how to rent rooms and hold events.
Coggins joined ICC in 2019, becoming good friends with the E-Board members at the time and, eventually, working her way up to President. “I bonded really well with the team,” she said. “We were together through thick and thin, and it’s a bond I will never forget.”
All are welcome to join the club, so if you’re interested in creating a space that fosters an accepting atmosphere and highlights a diverse selection of cultural experiences, consider becoming a member! As former President Coggins put it, “Let’s get involved and have fun!”
