The Bridgewater Commitment: A Promise Like No Other
On Tuesday, November 19, the entire Bridgewater State community received an email that would change the experience of most students across campus during their time at the university. Starting in the Fall of 2025, students will receive free tuition and mandatory fees for in-state students whose families earn 125,000 dollars or less.
The Bridgewater Commitment is funded by a combination of resources, including federal, state, BSU, and private funds, in order to help students in Massachusetts have more affordable access to higher education. While other universities are able to provide similar commitments for households making 75,000 or less, none compare to the accomplishments of BSU.
The Bridgewater Commitment is available to both current and incoming students as of Fall 2025, and is currently expected to continue beyond the 2025-2026 school year. In order to be eligible for this opportunity, in addition to being in-state and having a house-hold income of 125,000 dollars and less, students must apply for the FAFSA (which will help to determine eligibility), be a full time student, and be pursing their first bachelor’s degree. Additionally, the rule for in-state students is that they must have been Massachusetts residents for no less than two years.
For those curious of what the mandatory fees consist of, those include the student support fee, technology fee, and the capital fee. Those fees can be found in your Ebill. Essentially, the costs that are not covered under The Bridgewater Commitment consist of the cost to live on campus, textbooks, and travel.
