A Bear’s Guide to a Clean Room
Today was just like any normal day. I woke up just a little too late, ran haphazardly to my class, then followed that with work for four hours. It wasn’t until I returned to my dorm room that I had a major realization. My bed was unmade, my desk had approximately two square inches of vacant space, and one of my socks I had whipped off in the middle of the night before made it over to my roommates side of the room. Oh my glob, I’m a slob!
Don’t fret! I may be a mess but at least I’m self aware! I quickly turned back to my old ways and decided to get some of my old cleaning habits back on track. Having similar problems keeping your dorm room clean? You could try giving Mr. Clean a call, or you can keep reading.
For starters, it’s important to remember that keeping your room clean is something you should do for yourself and your roommate(s). You don’t want to be that person who doesn’t clean their dishes, but you also don’t want to leave them for yourself to do at inconvenient times. Practicing organizational skills and keeping your environment clean is essential to a good life style.
The best way to keep up all of these habits is to keep a schedule. I like to motivate myself to clean my room and common room about twice a week to avoid any messy buildup. I recommend scheduling these times for when your roommates are all busy, that way you can play your guilty pleasure music out loud and dance around, all judgement free.
In terms of cleaning, I like to focus on keeping surfaces clean and organized. I like to use lysol wipes to wipe down surfaces and really utilize the drawer space in my room. Additionally, I am always sure to not leave stuff out, getting into the habit of putting things back in their designated spots avoids clutter and keeps the space feeling open. Keeping up with laundry and trash is essential too, and I recommend taking care of each at least one to two times a week. To top it all off, I like to use a good scented room spray to enhance the fresh and clean environment. Stay cleanly Bears!
