A Horrifyingly Exciting Play is Coming to BSU!
Carrie Goes to Horror High, a brand new play, will be debuted here at BSU this this April and May!
This dark musical comedy is centered around a young writer named Carrie. Carrie can hear voices in her head that torment her, inspire her, support her, and serve as co-authors to her when she’s writing. At the show’s opening, Carrie is attempting to piece together a successful novel but is struggling because the voices in her head seem to have disappeared. Hopeless, she calls out for help, and Lucifer answers. Manipulating Carrie’s desire for fame and fortune, he convinces her to sign away her soul in exchange for his help in achieving her goals. However, the minute she signs, she becomes a character within her own story. The story is set in a high school filled with students who are the children of classic horror characters from several pieces of literature. Through her experiences in this upside-down school, Carrie learns about life and must face her devilish history.
This thrilling story was written by acclaimed playwright Steven Bogart and the exhilarating rock musical numbers were written by the accomplished composer Ben Cohen. Working on an original play is no easy feat, but the cast and crew are having a blast navigating it. Hannah Ferro plays the character Maddie, the daughter of Medusa, and describes her experience, stating, “It can be challenging to have no original source material to consult; however, it is also really fun because there are no set expectations, so we get to be the ones to figure it all out.”
When discussing the show with Ferro, it became clear how much work is being put into this show and how much enthusiasm everyone involved has for it.
The show will be performed six times in the RSU Auditorium. There will be evening performances from 8:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. on April 25, April 26, May 1, and May 2. In addition, there will be afternoon performances from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on April 26, April 27, and May 3. “It is a spectacle with a wildly wonderful cast and has lots of fun homages to so many past pop culture movies, characters, and pieces of literature. Overall, it will be a ton of fun. It’s high school drama, rock music, and monsters; what’s not to love?” Ferro exclaimed when asked why people should see this spectacularly spooky show.
