Black Sabbath to Go “Back to the Beginning” For One Last Show
Birmingham, England will once again be at the center of the rock and roll world. On July 5th, Black Sabbath will reunite for one last show dubbed “Back to the Beginning” at Villa Park in Birmingham.
The show, as announced by Sharon Osbourne, the wife of Ozzy Osbourne, will be the last performance for the Prince of Darkness.
This show is particularly important as the original lineup of Tony Iommi (guitar), Geezer Butler (bass), Bill Ward (drums), and Ozzy Osbourne (vocals) will be at the forefront of the show.
Event director Tom Morello, formerly of Rage Against the Machine and Audioslave, has stated, “This will be the greatest heavy metal show ever.”
The show will be opened by Metallica, Slayer, Pantera, Gojira, Halestorm, Alice in Chains, Lamb of God, Anthrax, and Mastodon. The event will also feature appearances from many guests such as Billy Corgan of The Smashing Pumpkins and David Draiman of Disturbed.
Ozzy Osbourne will then play a solo set before playing with his bandmates from Black Sabbath.
This is the first show that these four pioneers of heavy metal have played together since 2005 on the Ozzfest Tour 2005, although Butler, Iommi, and Osbourne toured together from 2012 to 2017.
The band previously played “final shows” three times.
The first time was on November 15th, 1992 when Osbourne was originally going to retire and had Iommi, Ward, and Butler perform an encore with him. The second time was on December 22nd, 1999. The third time was on February 4th, 2017, during The End Tour.
Tickets went on sale on February 14 and sold out in mere minutes for what may really be “The End”.
