Brady Offically Buys Ownership Stake in the Las Vegas Raiders

Tom Brady officially started a new NFL chapter on October 15, as the seven-time Super Bowl champion was unanimously approved by team owners to acquire a minority stake in the Las Vegas Raiders, purchasing a 5% interest in the franchise. Brady’s decision to chase an ownership stake began in May 2023, and after many months of negotiation and deliberation, NFL owners approved Brady’s proposal.

Along the way, Brady’s proposal faced a long delay. Before his ownership stake was granted, Brady had signed a lucrative contract with Fox to become their lead NFL color commentator. Eventually, the issue was resolved, as the league is now requiring Brady to follow some very unique guidelines. Brady is prohibited from being in another team’s facilities, attending team practices, observing production meetings, or criticizing game officials and other teams. Brady must also follow the league’s gambling and anti-tampering policies.

For Brady, who grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area, this move is a full-circle moment for him. It is bringing him closer to his football roots, while also allowing him to contribute to the game in a new way.

In an interview with NFL.com, Brady expressed his excitement about joining the Raiders, affirming his commitment to helping reignite the team’s tradition and build its future. He stated that his decision to become a part-owner of the Raiders is rooted in his observation of the franchise’s “teamwork, resilience, and a relentless pursuit of excellence.”

Brady has also expanded his horizons when it comes to ownership, as he acquired interests in the WNBA’s Las Vegas Aces and in Birmingham City, an English soccer club, where he serves on the advisory board.

Brady’s involvement with the Raiders adds another high-profile figure to NFL ownership, thus adding to the trend of star athletes transitioning into ownership roles. With his experience and commitment, Brady’s presence could help energize fans who have been hoping for a brighter future for years.
