BSU Athlete Spotlight: Scott Emerson
As Spring sports get underway here at Bridgewater State University, I had the privilege of connecting with BSU baseball star and senior captain, Scott Emerson.
After a phenomenal season in 2024, Emerson expressed his excitement for the upcoming season in 2025. He describes, “I’m feeling really excited for the 2025 season. Last year was a great year where we saw lots of success, but it’s a brand new year, and there’s still more work to be done.”
With great performance comes greater expectations, however, Emerson is cool, calm, and collected, with the team’s goals being quite clear. “As a team, I think the expectation is simple: build off of last year, win the MASCAC, and compete in the NCAA tournament…I am very confident in each and every guy’s ability to contribute and help us reach that goal.” Emerson stated.
Of course, the team comes first, but Emerson was also adamant about not only growing as a team, but growing personally as well. “Personally, I just want to keep improving in all aspects of my game, whether that’s at the plate, in the field, or just being a better teammate. I’m always looking for ways to improve my game and contribute to help the team win” Emerson said.
Emerson has also received the honor of leading his team as a captain in 2025. Considering the appointment a huge honor, Emerson explains, “To me being a captain isn’t about just having a title, it’s about leading by example, both on and off the field…The goal is to continue creating a championship culture where guys are motivated to play for each other and leave it all out on the field.”
When asked about his feelings regarding the season being his last, Emerson was honest about the surrealism that comes with being a senior. “I try not to think about it too much, but I’d be lying if I said this year doesn’t feel a little different…I am most proud of the growth that I have had, not just as a player, but as a person. This sport has taught me so much about the value of hard work and resilience…and built lifetime relationships that I am forever grateful for.”
BSU’s first home game will be on March 25 against Rhode Island College at 3:00 p.m.
