BSU Fall Sports Recap
BSU Fall sports saw major success this fall. Both men’s and women’s teams saw championships, awards, and dominance as the Fall season comes to a close.
BSU Fall sports were a part of many championship games in 2024, including women’s field hockey, soccer, and volleyball teams. Though the field hockey team was not able to claim the MASCAC title, the soccer and volleyball teams were able to each accomplish the ultimate goal.
On the other hand, BSU’s football, men’s soccer, and cross country teams each had successful seasons of their own. Game MVP Mike McCarthy led the football team to a win in the 45th Annuel Cranberry Bowl, while the top-seeded BSU soccer team made it to the semifinals, but came up just short. In addition, cross country star Kevin McBirney claimed the individual cross country MASCAC title, winning it in style for BSU.
BSU received multiple awards for the players who made a huge impact in BSU’s sucess this fall. BSU saw five field hockey players; Samantha Souza; Abbie Zuber; Lexi James; Noelle Cornetta; and Emelia Wastewater, seven men’s soccer players; Nicholas Ribeiro; Tyler Chang; Hector Bucio; Gavin Norton; Nicolas Matias; Lukas Ekmanis; and Fiippo Mucci, and six women’s soccer players; Bailey Brown; Olivia Robarge; Logan Levesque; Emily McCormack; Jenna Sweeney; and Makenna Lessard headline their respective All-MASCAC teams.
BSU’s coaches were also recognized by the conference. Yasmina Carvalho (women’s soccer) and Brenden Adams (men’s soccer) each took home the Coach of the Year honors for their incredible leadership ability and coaching their team to another dominant season.
The Bears also finished in second place in the Howard C. Smith Cup standings following the Fall season, scoring 64 out of a possible 76 points (84.2%). For those unfamiliar, the Smith Cup is awarded to the MASCAC institution which tallies the most amount of points based on the placement of each of its sports competing in the 15 league championships.
BSU sports will look to carry their momentum as the Winter season gets underway. After a dominant Fall, our Bears should feel proud of the hard work, teamwork, and determination every team showed throughout the course of the fall season.
