Daredevil Born Again… Or Is He?
Daredevil Born Again premiered the first two episodes on March 4, much to the rabid excitement of fans who have been waiting seven years for more Daredevil content.
The last season of Daredevil was released in 2018. An episode has come out every week since the premiere, and as of March 18, there are four episodes, which constitute about half of the season as the full season has been set to be nine episodes total.
Daredevil Born Again takes on a dark tone, which is not unusual for Daredevil but is significant in the sense of the newfound loss that Matt Murdock (played by Charlie Cox) has to deal with and face personally in this season.
Daredevil Born Again is about Matt Murdock questioning what it means to be Daredevil, and we see him making choices that give up some of the determination for vigilante justice that he had in the original show. In Daredevil Born Again, Matt Murdock must face who he is without Daredevil; who he is behind the mask.
In my opinion, I would classify Daredevil Born Again as a different show than Daredevil rather than a continuation of the original series. Though it could be considered both in some way, this season takes on a new tone with characters exploring parts of themselves that they never had previously as a result of dealing with the loss or absence of people who had always been in their lives.
A question that has continued to permeate through the minds of viewers after watching the first four episodes is: will Matt Murdock fully give up the mask and everything that comes with being Daredevil?
