Exploring Life Design at BSU!
Have you heard about Life Design@BSU? This program is provided by the Career and Internship Services Center at Bridgewater State University. Life Design@BSU has appointments, courses, and in-person events to assist students with majors, career paths, internships, and career fairs. Life Design is available to all students. I attended two appointments and two in-person sessions of Life Design, and here is what I’ve learned!
During my virtual Life Design appointment, career advisor Carol Crosby asked me thought-provoking questions and showed me the tasks, responsibilities, and descriptions of jobs. These sessions are meant to narrow down and help students figure out what careers they like to pursue. At the end of the appointment, Crosby gave me some websites and occupations I was potentially interested in.
Students who attended Life Design Lab: What’s Your Personality? took an assessment to determine what kind of personality they have. The presenter, Carol Crosby, explained the results of the quiz to the students. The assessment is meant to make students think about what jobs align with the student’s personality, not define the student’s career.
At Life Design Lab: Exploring Your Skills, participants sorted cards to identify skills they would like to use in their careers. Another activity involved students choosing a skill to enhance and brainstorm ideas with other participants. Then, students choose a solution to test, reconsider, and reflect.
Life Design has helped me better understand my interests and become more aware of the career paths I can pursue. I love the engagement of thought and the exploration of new possibilities through talking with the career advisors and other students.
