Formula One Season Begins
The 2025 Formula One season is underway! With Lewis Hamilton moving to Ferrari, Carlos Sainz to Williams, and six new rookies, this season was anticipated to bring lots of tense action.
The first race of the season was held in Melbourne, Australia. It kicked off dripping with stress, the weather raining on the parade of many drivers. Lando Norris started on pole after qualifying first, with his McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri shortly behind him, and the four-time world champion, Max Verstappen, sneaking up in third.
There were many slips and slides, resulting in an unfortunate amount of DNFs (Did Not Finish). Isack Hadjar in Racing Bulls was out in the formation lap, while shortly after in turn five, Jack Doohan in an Alpine crashed, shortening the rookies’ debut race. Carlos Sainz, in his new Williams, also slid into the wall under a safety car, joining Doohan and Hadjar. Fernando Alonso in the Aston Martin brought out a virtual safety car on lap 34 after hitting the barriers, retiring the car. Liam Lawson in the Red Bull and Gabriel Bortoleto in the Kick Sauber also spun out, hitting the wall and DNFing.
Norris, keeping a quick pace, beat Verstappen to 1st place, with George Russell following in third.
The second race of the season, on the 23rd of March, was held in Shanghai, China. It started with a sprint race, a shorter race before the official race on Sunday, in which Lewis Hamilton won in his fiery red Ferrari.
The drivers were met with much drier conditions as well, with Piastri later qualifying on pole and George Russell in second behind him. The only retirement was Alonso with a break failure. However, it was announced that Charles Leclerc, Pierre Gasly, and Lewis Hamilton were disqualified from the race due to their cars not meeting the post-race specifications.
Oscar Piastri won in first with Lando in second, re-establishing their current dominance over the grid, with George in third just behind the two.
