Grammys? I Hardly Know Her
So, this was going to have some thoughts and maybe even reviews of the fashion on the Grammys Red Carpet this year. However, I hate to say that I was rather… bored. The theme was extremely touching, honoring the victims of the wildfires in Los Angeles and the courageous firefighters. I feel like a lot could have been delivered with this theme, something capturing the resilience of people in trying times. Instead, we got repetitive black outfits that didn’t really make that statement for me.
Those who stood out fashionably were definitely Chappell Roan – of course – Doechii, and Troye Sivan. Some other people made big statements, namely a certain couple that showed up uninvited. Moving on from that though, let’s talk about the show.
The performances by Doechii, Chappell, Charli XCX, and Cynthia Erivo were by far my favorites. The stage presence of each performance was incredible, and I feel like for the first time in a while I was in a trance while watching. I feel like we were in a dancer drought in performances, and I am so happy to see artists incorporating more dance into their shows.
Also, a moment for Doechii’s win of Rap Album of the Year. Her acceptance and speech brought me to tears personally, and I could not think of a person more deserving of that award! My sister is a huge Doechii fan, so I have been listening to her for a long time because of that; seeing her growth as an artist has been amazing!
All in all, I think the Grammys were great this year! I was not disappointed, nor bored. In fact, I feel like we are returning to an era of great artistic expression, especially in music.
