Keep Out an Eye for #11, Cheyenne Nelson!
If you ask senior Cheyenne Nelson (she/her) about her position on the women’s soccer team, she will proudly talk about her role as the third-string goalie… Is she typically a goalie? Perhaps not, but effort shows her willingness to do whatever it takes to help her team succeed. Through and through, Cheyenne Nelson is the type of person that helps make a team a family.
While she is number 11 on the field, in the classroom she is a communication studies major with a concentration in public relations. “Right now I’m just focused on finishing my senior year and exploring different career paths. I know I want to work in the sports field, and I’m considering roles in sports PR, athletic communications, or possibly sports marketing”
While Nelson has always been a student athlete while attending Bridgewater State, she did not start out on the women’s soccer team. Coming into college, Nelson was a member of the track and field team, however moved on to her endeavors with soccer during her sophomore year. Following the email recruitment she received from her coach, Nelson attended soccer practices in the Spring of her sophomore year and then tried out in the Fall.
Growing up, Cheyenne was a three-season athlete participating in sports including softball, basketball, and track. While she had interest in all these sports, soccer remained her top pick, as she has played since the young age of four years old. From in-town soccer to club, Nelson has been on the soccer field from a very early age.
Most of her soccer career, Nelson played as a defender, however onlookers can see her playing in a new position. “I’m an outside mid this season,” said Nelson. “I like being more offensive, getting action both up the field and back. I didn’t have that on defense.”
Dedicating her motivation to the support shown by her parents and brother, who is a former men’s soccer player that graduated this past Spring, Cheyenne is excited to see how the rest of the season goes with her second family, the BSU women’s soccer team!
