Netflix’s Arcane is a masterpiece
The second season of the hit show Arcane was recently released on Netflix. The show is based on the video game League of Legends. The first season followed Vi voiced by Hailee Steinfeld and Jinx voiced by Ella Purnell. The story follows them as they come of age in a turbulent time for the cities of Piltover and Zaun. Piltover is a seemingly utopian city full of excess and riches. Zaun is the undercity, often dealing with violence or crime and oppression from Piltover. Jayce voiced by Kevin Alejandro and Victor voiced by Harry Lloyd have developed technology that could have massive effects on the future of the cities and the world. This new season follows Vi, Jinx, and the other characters as the consequences of the previous season’s finale unfold. This includes the deaths of some prominent characters and the introduction of new side characters to the cast.
This season has been a masterpiece from vivid art direction to resonant emotional plot points. This is another of many shows that should sway anyone who believes the notion that animation can only be made for children. The story has themes of destiny, grief, and learning to move on from hardship as key aspects throughout the cast of characters. I would say this season improves upon the best parts of the previous season. I loved how it integrated the music into certain scenes making some feel like music videos in the middle of an episode. I would give this season a 10/10.
