New England Hires New Coaching Staff
The New England Patriots have officially moved on from Head Coach Jerod Mayo and have Hired Mike Vrabel as their new Head Coach.
Vrabel, a former Patriot player from 2001-2008, is 54-45 in his 6 years of being a head coach, including a trip to the AFC Championship game in 2018. He has also won the Coach of the Year award in 2021.
This marks a new start for the Patriots, who are coming off an abysmal season this year. However, it seems as though New England is heading in the right direction by getting a guy who has proven to be a successful coach in the NFL, while also having ties with the Krafts (team owners) and New England.
To go with this new hiring, the Patriots are also bringing back old friend Josh McDainels to be the team’s Offensive Coordinator (OC). This will be McDainels’ third stint with the team.
Over his two previous stints with New England, McDaniels won 6 super bowls and led the Patriots to being a top-10 offense in every season he was the OC of the team.
Vrabel has also brought over Lions run game coordinator/defensive line coach Terrell Williams to be New England’s Defensive Coordinator. Williams was the defensive line coach for the Tennessee Titans while Verbal was there, and has been a friend of Vrabel for years. Williams led the Lions defensive line to a top-5 ranking and their running game to a top-3 ranking.
New England still has a lot of work to do in terms of roster creation and team personnel, however, hiring this trio seems to be a step in the right direction.
