Player Profile: Jessie D’Amours
For BSU’s Jessica (Jessie) D’Amours, playing basketball in college was never a question. She grew up with the sport, playing since she was just 6 years old.
Basketball for Jessie is a family affair; her dad coached her from 2nd grade through to high school. “My dad has never missed a basketball game in all of my career and is the first one to give me love and support after the good and the bad,” said Jessie.
Jessie did not always play for the Bears. After a freshman year season, in which she spent with a team that didn’t spend time together off the court, it made for a rough season according to D’Amours. As a result, she made the decision to transfer here to BSU in her sophomore year.
“The most valuable lesson basketball has taught me is that the people make the place…After coming to Bridgewater, I have met some of my best friends and have made the best memories all because of the people I was surrounded by on this team!” said D’Amours.
Now, as the star center for the Bears, Jessie will attemt to lead the team by example, always working hard during practice and games. Though she may not be as vocal, Jessie leads with her actions on the court.
This basketball season, the Bears have one goal: ‘revenge.’ After a loss to Framingham State last year in the MASCAC championship, Jessie and the team are back and ready to win this year.
“Our goal has been to take it game by game and quarter by quarter. We are slowly chipping away and beating teams we lost to last year, and I think a huge factor of us achieving these goals is our team chemistry, we really just play so well together and love each other on and off the court.”
