Spotify Wrapped Is Finally Here!
During the holiday season, there’s one holiday that everyone who loves music eagerly awaits: Spotify Wrapped Day. Coming a little later than the last two years, I found myself growing more eager until December 4th finally came around and I awoke to the music equivalent of presents under the tree.
This time around, we a flashy gradient squares aesthetic for the entire wrapped story lineup. For this wrapped, Spotify decided to look through our 2024 Music Evolution to capture our changes in taste as the months go by, rather than look at it as a whole as we’re normally used to.
Back in March, according to Spotify, I was in my Boujee Clean Rap Hip Hop phase. I’d say this was accurate except for the clean part. I’ve only accidentally listened to the clean versions of albums. Meanwhile, in June, I was labeled to be in my Vampire Shonen Rap season? I’ll be honest, I’m a little loose here but I think I can start with my listening to Playboi Carti. And finally, in October, I was in my Cyberpunk Synthesizer Soundtrack moment. This… is embarrassingly true.
Outside of the unique labeling of our evolving music tastes, we got the usual simple stats of who our top artists and songs were. For me, I’ve had a smaller artist by the name of yourbestfriendjippy on the top of my artist list for a few years in a row now (shout out to his beats for helping me through my essays).
Although I always find it strange we get this late November/early December rather than after the year ends, I don’t exactly mind it because it feels just like another little holiday to celebrate this season.
One of my earlies memories was watching stories unfold on a small TV in my room. Ever since then, I've always wanted to become a filmmaker to put stories of my own onto all manner of screens. Being a fan of writing alongside this has also led to my love of writing analysis/reviews on the things I view. It's a joy to share to others my thoughts and insights on media.
