Student Athlete Profile: Dante Kikuba
While the Men’s Basketball team at 10-14 has not particularly stood out among the other BSU sports, there have been players who have risen to the occasion. One of those players is guard, and number 4, Dante Kikuba.
Kikuba is averaging 14.8 points per game with a field goal percentage of 39% on the season thus far for the Bears.
In what he claims to be the best game of his career, Kikuba also scored his 1,000th point this season, doing so against Framingham State on February 5 at the Adrian Tinsley Center. Kikuba became just the 31st Bear to achieve the feat for the Men’s team.
Kikuba, unlike other athletes, has a more simple preparation routine for a game. In an interview with The Comment, Kikuba said that the only thing he does is take shots before every game.
Kikuba got into the game of basketball by watching his brother play. He claims that his brother was the reason he decided to lay and pursue basketball.
When it came to playing at the College level, Kikuba’s decision was not easy. For him, his decision was between Suffolk University in Boston, MA, or here at Bridgewater State University.
Kikuba also went on about the connection and brotherhood he and his teammates have created over this season. “… (it) means the most to me… we’re all a family and push each other every day to be the team we know we’re supposed to be.”
Beyond his teammates, the coaches mean a lot to him as well, claiming he is grateful to his coaches for, “Allowing me to be the player I am while helping be a better leader and player.”
Senior Day against Westfield State is on Wednesday the 19 of February, and while Kikuba is not a senior, he will be next season.
