The Shrek 5 Teaser is Here! And…
For years the internet has been asking for a Shrek 5, and now, when we finally get one, the first thing people are doing is complaining. Honestly, that checks out. It seems today that we live in a world where ‘trailer hating’ is a common thing, and while I won’t say that some movies don’t deserve it, others certainly seem a bit over the top.
Let’s take a look at what we have to unpack here. The trailer features a much older Shrek and Donkey looking at the magic mirror, which shows TikTok-like memes of Shrek. That’s it. No confirmed movie footage or plot lines, just a brief showcase of some updated character models and a casting announcement. Even with such little content, the humor and art style change have erupted into a sea of complaints spanning across the entire internet. It seems as if no one is happy with it.
Even the official Sonic movie TikTok jumped on the bandwagon and posted a video of their old Sonic model, saying, “For any green ogres looking for advice”. While I love the Sonic movies, I really don’t think they have any ground to argue on here. Why brag about how you made a design so hated that you had to change it?
While I do, like everyone else, prefer the old art style, I really think that we should still give the movie a chance. Just to write this article, I have watched the trailer multiple times on loop, and the more I watch, the less strange the style seems. At the end of the day, it really just seems like the problem here is change, and while change can be rough, we have to move past it.
