Viva Las Vegas!
As the 2024 Formula One season comes to a close, the sports biggest event of the year took place in none other than Las Vegas, Nevada.
Vegas is a newer track that was introduced to the F1 calendar in 2023. Many recognizable faces and celebrities made appearances this season, such as Sylvester Stallone, who waved the checkered flag at the end of the race.
The weekend was nothing less of entertaining, with many battles and outcomes shocking many. Mercedes had an amazing run, with George Russell converting his pole position (1st place start) into a first place win. His teammate, Lewis Hamilton, was not far behind, setting the fastest lap of thr race 12 different times and finishing second place overall.
Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz also put up an impressive fight, finishing in third place overall, with his teammate Charles Leclerc following behind in fourth.
A champion was also crowned in Vegas, as Red Bull’s Max Verstappen clinched the Drivers’ Championship. Though the Red Bull driver came in 5th place, the points he finished with, along with the lack of points his only competitor, McLaren’s Lando Norris, finished with, he eliminated any mathematical chance of another driver overtaking him in the standings, thus clinching him the Drivers’ title with two races to spare. This incredible feat marks Verstappen’s fourth Drivers’ Championship win in a row.
Unfortunately for two drivers, the show was not meant to go on. Pierre Gasly found his car’s engine fail before making it halfway through the race, while Alex Albon retired his car due to a cooling issue within the car’s interior.
With two races left in the 2024 season, the stakes are high, with most teams having much to fight for. However, one thing is for certain: the Las Vegas Grand Prix met every expectation, and put on an absolute show all weekend long.
