Be Seen at BSU!

Bright pink flooded into BSU’s Be Seen event, showcasing an event for both under and upperclassman bears alike!

There were a multitude of organizations tables down at University Park, giving out accessories like DIY keychains and tote bags to get students involved. The Boundless Bean truck also made an appearance, the long line for tasty foods being one of many options for refreshments. 

I was able to ask questions at a few tables, like the BSU tech support team located in Maxwell Library about how they fix electronics by staff and students. I spoke with the BSU food pantry about their current work in RSU and how they’re relocating after construction to RSU 207 starting May 1. I got to meet with Grit 101 as well to talk about their first-year experience program, where they asked about how student’s first semester went, using the feedback to improve future years.

Visiting the Department of Special Education, I was able to interact with sensory games like getting my name punched in Braille. The table gave out information overall on how to get involved in the Best Buddies organization, the EXCEL program, Special Olympics on campus, and more in the Student Accessibility Services (SAS).

Mads Esquival, our Opinion editor here at The Comment said, “As someone who is a SAS student and utilizes accommodations in my day-to-day as a BSU student, it feels nice to know that students who have support needs are represented and even celebrated on campus. It was overjoying to see so many people show up, wear their pink, and take part in the fun activities throughout UPark! Even Fred Clark showed up with his best pink tie. It is overall such a lovely feeling seeing how connected BSU is and how much they care about all their students.”

Emma Jamrin, our Operations Director, went as well and commented, “I think now more than ever, visible displays of community and solidarity are needed to show each other that we stand together…”
