Bridgewater Man Arrested in Hate Crime on BSU’s Campus
On March 10, a man was arrested in connection to a hate crime that took place on BSU’s campus.
The incident, which took place in Spring Street Lot, involved a man placing pro-Nazi and anti-immigrant stickers in the public parking lot. Bridgewater citizen Michael Beaudry was arrested in connection with the crime. Though a citizen of Bridgewater, Beaudry was not found to be affiliated with the University in any way.
BSUPD is credited with the swift arrest of Beaudry, and they were assisted by the video footage obtained on the surveillance cameras in Spring Street Lot. According to BSUPD, Spring Street Lot is the only place on BSU’s campus where the stickers were placed, though they were found to be in another lot within Bridgewater, but outside of BSU’s campus.
BSU’s President Fred Clark sent a message to the campus community about the incident, condemning acts of hatred and bigotry.
In the statement issued, Fred Clark said, “Bridgewater State University condemns any expressions of hate, which violate our values as a campus community. BSU takes pride in creating a safe campus community where all students can learn, live, socialize, and grow in a caring environment with strong support systems. BSU is ranked as the third safest college campus in America. Acts of vandalism and expressions of hate undermine our sense of community and will never be tolerated.”
The administration’s quick response to the incident reaffirm BSU’s commitment to maintaining a safe environment for all students to be protected from discrimination and any and all expressions of hatred.
