BSU Student Visa Revoked
We are witnessing increasing action across the country as visas are being revoked for little or no reason. So far, more than 500 students have been affected nationwide, and we expect that number to continue rising. Understandably, there are fears and stress regarding immigration status and its implications for individuals. Recently, BSU faced a similar experience when one of our international graduate students was personally impacted by this situation.
There is certain information that cannot be disclosed due to privacy reasons, but what we can share is that the student was doing an externship in New York City at one of BSU’s satellite programs. The university was not notified of this action by federal authorities and has not assisted the government in any way. BSU has also been in contact with the student, providing appropriate support through the campus, and the student has been directed to legal services, which they have already retained. Following Fred Clark’s email regarding this situation, a follow-up email was sent from the International Student Scholar Services Office to all international services, offering support to help them navigate this time.
At any given moment, there are at least 100 international students on campus, and we understand that this situation could cause stress regarding immigration status and worries about travel safety. If you have been affected by this, even indirectly, don’t hesitate to reach out to one of the many resources available on campus for questions or support. While this is a distressing situation, we remain confident that BSU is a safe place for all and will continue to refrain from assisting in any investigations or measures against our students.
