Doechii the Dean, Doechii Supreme
Unless you have been living under a rock for the past year, you may have noticed a newer face in the realm of rap and hip hop. Emerging from the swamp with her latest album, Alligator Bites Never Heal, Doechii has taken the music world by storm.
The past Grammys was a huge success for Doechii, as she walked away from the night with a Best Rap Album award – the third woman in history to win the award.
So, what’s the deal with Doechii and where did she come from? more seasoned fans such as I may remember her from Oh The Places You’ll Go, her 2020 album that really introduced who she is as a rapper. Her song titled Denial is a River is a further look into her life and personality, as she opens up about her struggles as an up-and-coming artist who was new to the Hollywood scene.
Overall, the growing fame of Doechii as of recently is not only a huge feat for women also looking to be represented in rap and hip hop but is also a major win for Black girls who need someone to look up to. Doechii has always made it clear that spaces for young Black women and girls to express themselves need to be more available to the public.
I personally am thrilled to see where Doechii takes her career as she continues to climb up the ladder of stardom. Her creativity is refreshing, and I enjoy seeing her takes on the genres of rap and hip hop in her own special way. Some may say she is like Chappell Roan in her long story of success to getting here, but I think it’s time we let stars have their own spotlight instead of comparing their stories. Doechii is herself and her representation of her personal life is what makes her such a unique musician.
