At just 39 years old, Coach Todd Golden became the youngest head coach to win a men’s basketball title since Jim Valvano in 1983. Under his leadership, their tournament run included significant wins over top teams like UConn, Texas Tech, and Auburn, highlighting their depth and determination.
In the women’s championship, on April 6, 2025, at Amalie Arena in Tampa, the 2-seeded UConn Huskies demonstrated their dominance with an 82-59 win over the 1-seeded South Carolina Gamecocks. This victory not only secured their 12th national title but also marked their first since 2016.
Guard Azzi Fudd’s outstanding performance earned her the Most Outstanding Player award. The Huskies’ offense was relentless, with significant contributions from Paige Bueckers, and KK Arnold adding seven points in the fourth quarter to secure the win. UConn’s defense was equally impressive, restricting South Carolina’s scoring chances and maintaining control throughout the game.
Head coach Geno Auriemma’s leadership remains a key factor in UConn’s continued excellence, as the team finished the season with a 37-3 record, with all wins by double-digit margins.
