Keeping up with Cynthia Erivo
Cynthia Erivo has garnered media attention over the past year after starring alongside Ariana Grande in the live-action musical Wicked. Erivo, who is known for her incredible performance as Elphaba in Wicked as well as Harriet Tubman in Harriet, has achieved many successes in the past couple of years. The award-winning actress, singer, and producer has won numerous awards: Grammy, Emmy, Tony, Academy, and Golden Globe awards, and we can’t forget her SAG nomination. Erivo has been in countless Broadway musicals, and her performance in the 2005 Broadway musical of The Color Purple was highly acclaimed, earning her a Tony award for “Best Actress in a musical”.
Erivo has recently dropped two singles for her fans, allowing the world to see her lyrical talent alongside her vocal talent. Her two singles, “Replay” and “Worst of Me,” were released. According to Billboard, “Worst of Me” captured 73% of the vote, surpassing recent releases from artists…” as she shares her story of moving on from a toxic relationship and starting a new chapter of her life. Erivo’s lyrics in her song “Worst of Me” says, “You could cut me deeper than the ocean, but I refuse to drown. I’m coming up. I wanna breathe again. I gave you my all, but you took the worst of me”, which had impacted her audience, allowing them to reflect on their own relationships. Her relatable lyrics struck her fans deeply.
Ervio’s new album, I Forgive You, set to release on June 6th, explores her romances, the heartbreak of past relationships, love, and new beginnings. She showcases her talent through her lyrics and her strong, rich vocals. Fans are excited to see what Erivo has in store for this new era.
