The Hype For Avengers: Doomsday Ramps Up
On March 26, Marvel Studios announced the cast for the fifth Avengers movie, Avengers: Doomsday. Everyone knew that Robert Downey Jr. would be returning as Victor von Doom/Dr. Doom after starring as Tony Stark/Iron Man. Marvel announced the return of icons such as Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Paul Rudd as Scott Lang/Ant-Man, and Tom Hiddleston as Loki. This brought other news such as the returns of James Marsden as Scott Summers/Cyclops, Kelsey Grammer as Dr. Hank McCoy/Beast, Rebecca Romijn as Raven Darkholme/Mystique, Alan Cumming as Kurt Wagner/Nightcrawler, Channing Tatum as Remy LeBaeu/Gambit, Ian McKellen as Erik Lehnsherr/Magneto, and Patrick Stewart as Charles Xavier/Professor X from the X-Men films. Tatum, however, told ExtraTV, “It was just my name, it wasn’t exactly Gambit…”.
Marvel announced Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm/Invisible Woman, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm/Human Torch, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm/The Thing who will be in The Fantastic Four: First Steps. They also announced the return of Letitia Wright as Shuri/Black Panther, Winston Duke as M’Baku, and Tenoch Huerta Mejia as Namor from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Marvel revealed Thunderbolts, the newest MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) team, consisting of Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan), John Walker/U.S. Agent (Wyatt Russell), Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), Bob/Sentry (Lewis Pullman), Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian (David Harbour), and Ava Starr/Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen).
The studio said Danny Ramirez will return as Joaquin Torres/Falcon from Captain America: Brave New World as will Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson/Captain America along with Simu Liu as Xu Shang-Chi from Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. The cast will bring the MCU together, being tradition since The Avengers. The movie will see Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton/Hawkeye, Benedict Cumberbatch as Stephen Strange/Doctor Strange, Tom Holland as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, and Hayley Atwell as Peggy Carter as well. Chris Evans is rumored to return in an unknown role. Doomsday is in theaters May 1, 2026.
