Tips For Finals
We have made it through the bulk of the semester, but now we have one more roadblock. FINALS! As we near finals, and start our preparation for test season, hopefully, I can provide you with some tips. I have written a list of six of my top tips for acing the end of the semester.
Tip 1: Create a Study Schedule
Don’t cram for a test the night before to avoid burnout. Studying the night before doesn’t give you enough time to retain the information. Start planning a study schedule one/two weeks ahead of time. Don’t forget to give yourself enough time to review, as well as set aside time for breaks.
Tip 2: Prioritize Sleep, Nutrition, and Mental Health
Don’t pull all-nighters as they are counterproductive when studying. Aim for seven to nine hours of sleep each night, and eat balanced meals throughout the day. Staying hydrated and minimizing caffeine can also improve your focus and mood. It’s very normal to feel anxious about an upcoming test, so coping mechanisms to reduce anxiety.
Tip 3: Use Active Study Techniques
Using flashcards, practice tests, teaching the material to a friend, and visual aids can help reinforce difficult concepts and make retaining information easier.
Tip 4: Find the Right Study Environment for You
Find your ideal study environment, whether it be silence or with a little noise, and do what works for you.
Tip 5: Know Your Exam Formats
Knowing whether your final is an essay, multiple choice test, presentation, or open-book exam can make a difference in the way you prepare for the test.
Tip 6: Ask For Help
If you’re confused, reach out to professors or classmates. Utilize the Academic Achievement Center, as they provide free tutoring services on campus for every subject. Office hours are also very important as they can help clarify tough concepts.
