UFC 314: Volkanovski Regains Featherweight Title; Pimblett Defeats Chandler

UFC 314 provided an exhilarating evening of mixed martial arts on April 12, 2025, at the Kaseya Center, with Alexander Volkanovski regaining the Featherweight crown and Paddy Pimblett standing out as the night’s biggest victors.

The main event saw former featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski regain his title by defeating Brazil’s Diego Lopes by unanimous decision. With Ilia Topuria vacating the title to move up to  the lightweight division, a clash was set between Volkanovski’s experience and Lopes’ rising momentum.

Over five intense rounds, Volkanovski demonstrated why he’s one of the sport’s most respected tacticians. Using sharp striking, relentless pressure, and precise footwork, the Australian outscored Lopes with scores of 48–47, 49–46, and 49–46. This victory made Volkanovski a two-time featherweight champion and reaffirmed his legendary status in the division.

The co-main event showcased rising British star Paddy Pimblett facing off against seasoned veteren Michael Chandler in a 5-round lightweight bout. Many questioned Pimblett’s readiness for such a high-level opponent, but “The Baddy” silenced critics with a decisive win.

After two competitive rounds, Pimblett intensified his efforts in the third. A powerful knee opened a deep cut beneath Chandler’s left eye, leading to a TKO stoppage at 3:07 of the round. Pimblett’s record improves to 7–0 in the UFC, and this victory propels him into the upper ranks of the lightweight division.

Both Volkanovski and Pimblett received Performance of the Night bonuses for their performances, each earning an additional $50,000. The event not only thrilled fans but also reshaped the title landscape in two of the UFC’s most competitive divisions.
