Bring Back Original Media!
With the success of The Comment school newspaper, it is with great pleasure that I announce The Comment 2: Open the Comment Section! Once that succeeds, the plan is to create a Comment video game and also a miniseries starring Bristaco.
Yeah, that unfortunately isn’t happening. But let’s face it, this exact style of releases is something that happens A LOT. It seems as if we live in a world of sequels, franchises, and my favorite, remakes!
…Remakes aren’t my favorite actually, and to be honest, I’m kind of sick of pre-existing franchises being built upon while newer ideas are demolished. Do we really need all of these installments of the same story when we could be getting brand new ones?
From a marketing viewpoint, I get it. Making something new is always a risk, and there is always a chance that you won’t find that audience you’re looking for. If you take a pre-existing IP with a large fanbase and make something new, you are certainly more likely to get attention than you are if you create something new. But from an audience standpoint, if you create enough sequels and projects, it begins to come across as laziness. Take for example the Ice Age franchise. There are more Ice Age installments than fingers on my right hand, and while I enjoyed those movies growing up, I look back on it now and wonder why they made so many.
While I do certainly enjoy a good sequel, I really hope that we see more original projects as time moves on. But let’s be honest, with the rate we’re going, BSU The Movie 2: Bridgew will probably be a more likely reality.
