Massachusetts Intercollegiate Poetry Showcase Reflection
On April 17th, I had the honor of presenting my poetry at Harvard for the 2025 Massachusetts Intercollegiate Poetry Showcase.
This poetry event is an annual conference that showcases the poetry of at least 15+ schools in Massachusetts, selecting one person from each school to represent their school through their poetry. I was selected by my professor, John Mulrooney, to represent Bridgewater State University.
The event lasted approximately two hours, and each poet presented one poem that they had written. All of the poetry was additionally published in a cumulative anthology that was released at the event for guests to take.
This showcase was an extremely rewarding experience. I was a little nervous at first, especially because the day of the event I had begun to lose my voice because of a cold I was getting over, but it ended up being perfectly fine and I was still able to present (albeit with a slightly deeper voice).
At the end of the event there was a post-show reception with refreshments and beverages for all of the presenters and their guests. Presenting at Harvard was a once in a lifetime experience and I’m extremely grateful I was given the opportunity. Traveling on the red line for the first time was certainly an experience, and I’m forever indebted to my friend, Harley, who came with me and made sure I made it there and back in one piece.
