2K26 Release
After the release of NBA 2K25, which fans trademarked to be an “utter disappointment,” on September 5, 2025, NBA 2K26 was released, being marked as an improvement to last year’s comparatively limited graphics and inconsistent shot timing. 2K26 adds a bit of glamour and an old-school feel, something that 2K25 simply failed to deliver. Is 2K26 worth the shot? Let’s get into it.
As it is an annually released game, most of the gameplay has remained similar, but minor changes can make all the difference. One change in particular is the adjustments made to the shot meter, being one of last year’s major complaints. This year’s release features an infinitely improved curved bar shot meter, similar to 2K23. The curved meter makes it all the more easier to time your shot, ultimately making it easier to consistently score on open shots.
Another improved aspect of this year’s release is the noticeable change in player movement. Running and defending have become smoother compared to last year, when it felt like your player was running in place. The improved motion has made the experience more action-packed and generally more enjoyable.
One of my favorite features as a WNBA fan is the integration of female players in MyTEAM alongside NBA stars for the first time in a 2K game. The game features players from all twelve teams, and in addition, a fully developed W mode. This mode includes pre-draft interviews and the pursuit of GOAT status for your player.
So, even with minor improvements within the game, what’s the general consensus? 2K26 is a refinement of 2K25 yet still a small but significant step towards further improvements.
