BSU Fall Sports Season Begins
Fall sports here at BSU are officially underway, with many teams looking to start their seasons off strong.
The BSU Field Hockey kicked off its season with a decisive 10-4 victory over UMaine, Farmington. Sophomore Samantha Souza led the way with four goals and an assist to lead the BSU offense. The team won their second game 5-0 but lost their third 3-0.
The Football team also started its season with a win, defeating Curry 35-28. Sophomore quarterback Shamus Whiting made his third career start and delivered in a big way, completing 20 of 32 passes for 328 yards and a pair of TDs. The team also opened out their MASCAC season with a 29-16 win over Westfield.
Both men’s and women’s soccer shut out Anna Maria to begin their 2025 campaign, with the women winning 7-0 and the men winning by a score of 6-0. However, both teams were not as fortunate in their next game, with the men losing 2-1 and the women losing 3-0. Their most recent game went much better, with the women beating Mass Maritime 7-0 for Head Coach Yasmina Carvalho’s 100th win, while the men won 3-1, also against Mass Maritime.
Women’s Tennis opened up its LEC slate with a 7-0 win over Vermont State University, Castleton. BSU Sophomore Emma Gibney won her no. 1 singles match, outlasting senior Stella Forte 7-5, 7-5, while sophomore Morgan Smith won at her no. 2 singles match over Madelyn Nonni 6-4, 6-1.
The BSU Volleyball team won their first game against Curray, sweeping them 3-0. This came after they split 1-1 at the Bonnie May Invitational. The team also beat Rhode Island College in five sets and split the Suffolk tri-match.
Overall, BSU has gotten off to a great start. With high hopes and expectations from players, coaches, and fans alike, BSU should be in for another exciting Fall season.
