Closing on the Chaos of the WNBA Season

We are coming up on the end of the 2025 WNBA season, and to say the least, this season was continuously bringing chaos to the basketball realm. From expansion teams breaking barriers (and records) to rookies exceeding expectations, the WNBA isn’t done making their impression in the media.

One of the biggest, and greatest, surprises of the 2025 season was the success of the newest addition to the league, the expansion team Golden State Valkyries. The Valkyries made history this season by being the first WNBA team to make it to the playoffs in their first expansion season. Part of their success can be credited to the fans, as they had the highest recorded attendance of any team this season. Head coach Natalie Nakase, the first Asian American WNBA coach, is also favored to win coach of the year thanks to her dedication towards building up the organization.

The class of 2025 rookies made their impression on the league, making this class one to remember. Most notably, Paige Bueckers, the #1 draft pick and favored rookie of the year, had a groundbreaking first season on the Dallas Wings. Bueckers dropped 44 points on the Los Angeles Sparks this past July, tying the record for the most points in a game by a rookie. Newcomers Sonia Citron and Kiki Iriafen of the Washington Mystics quickly made their presence known within the league, both participating in WNBA all-star weekend.

With the playoffs ahead and the best record in the league, the Minnesota Lynx are in favor of winning the championship. It certainly isn’t guaranteed as they have seven talented teams, such as the Valkyries, fighting for the 2025 championship title.
