Finding your Organization on Campus!
Whether you’re a new student walking onto campus for the first time or a returning student looking to make new friends, finding an organization to join can be a surprisingly difficult thing to do. If you’ve been having some trouble finding your club, I recommend trying these tips.
First thing’s first, don’t hesitate! I see so many students (including myself) talk about joining certain organizations and wait until the end of the semester to check them out. Of course, that doesn’t mean you can’t try organizations toward the end, I’m just saying that you might not get the feeling of the club.
Next, make use of both EngageBSU and all of the boards around campus with flyers. While occasionally, a professor will advertise a club or recommend it, most of the time, you won’t hear anything about it unless you seek it out yourself. You may also find clubs you think sound interesting or unique by just randomly browsing Engage between classes.
Another good strategy is to ask your friends what clubs they are a part of or thinking about joining. If you’re worried about showing up by yourself to an unfamiliar organization and not having anyone to talk to, bringing a friend can ensure there is someone you can count on to strike up a conversation with.
