“Honey Don’t” Watch this Movie—A Review
Honey, please, don’t watch this movie.
“Honey Don’t,” by Ethan Cohen, is a 2025 detective film centered on the titular Honey O’Donahue, played by Margaret Qualley, and her attempts to uncover a murder mystery in a small town.
The film stars Margaret Qualley, Chris Evans, Audrey Plaza, and Charlie Day. While none of these stars are giving poor performances, Qualley and Evans shine brighter than the rest of the cast. The film’s central mystery is so undercooked it’s still raw, introducing and abandoning plot points while failing to flesh out others. Qualley’s character will only meet with Evans a single time, and then, he will have no real connection to the main plot after that. His only purpose in this film is to get fans of Chris Evans in theaters, and the big twist at the end comes out of left field, with no real establishment.
Honey O’Donahue is meant to be a skilled private detective, but she uncovers almost nothing on her own. Rather than her piecing together a mystery, she simply stumbles into the answer by pure chance. Charlie Day’s character is meant to be comic relief, but he has essentially one joke the entire film, which is him asking protagonist, Honey, out on dates despite her saying she’s a lesbian. Meanwhile, Audrey Plaza, playing a police officer, is poorly developed. She only has around seven scenes in the film, three of which are sex scenes, and only one of those gives us any insight into her character.
I saw the film for free, and I still feel like I paid too much. At 129 minutes, the film barely even qualifies as a cinematic film; any shorter, and it would be a made-for-TV movie. The film needed another half hour to flesh out the plot and characters.
