Patriots Get First Win of 2025 after Dropping Home Opener
The New England Patriots opened the 2025 NFL season under the new leadership of Head Coach Mike Vrabel, and so far, the results offer both optimism and uncertainty for fans still getting used to life after the Tom-Brady-Bill-Belichick era.
This 2025 squad is the first in decades not to include any players connected to New England’s Super-Bowl-winning history, following the retirement of longtime center David Andrews and the departure of several veteran contributors, including Defensive End Detrich Wise Jr., Cornerback Johnathon Jones, and Long Snapper Joe Cardona.
After a rocky 20-13 home loss in Week One to the Las Vegas Raiders, the Patriots rebounded in Week Two, traveling to Miami and securing a 33-27 win over the Dolphins. This victory marked their first in Miami since 2019.
The road victory was Mike Vrabel’s first as New England’s head coach and the first of a new era in Foxboro. Quarterback Drake Maye, the team’s 2024 first-round pick, showed poise and promise, completing 19 of 23 passes for 230 yards and two touchdowns, while also tacking on a rushing score. Running Back Rhamondre Stevenson chipped in on both ground and air, helping keep the Patriots’ offense balanced.
Looking ahead, the Patriots will return to Gillette Stadium in Week Three for a matchup with the Pittsburgh Steelers. There is still a lot for the Pats to prove, but if the Week Two performance against the Dolphins was a sneak peek of what possibly is to come, New England may be in for a season defined by gritty comebacks and a chance to rewrite its trajectory under Vrabel.
